All jobs, you start off at the lowest level, and work your way up. Work threads can easily earn you promotions; work threads are simply threads where your character is doing their job. At the Ministry, your job depends completely on what department you’re working for. For example, if you work in Sports and Games as a scout, you may be at quidditch games looking for players for Britain or Ireland. If you’re an Auror, maybe you got a tip about a dark witch or wizard and want to check it out, or even, you’re looking into one of the shops in Knockturn alley.
Work threads can earn you promotions. Promotions within the Ministry and St. Mungos are different from within the shops. You could become the head of a whole department, for example, or head Auror… so on and so forth.
